We’re so glad you’re interested in submitting to Riot! While we’re not particularly demanding or specific with submissions, here are some guidelines to help you understand what we’re looking for:

  1. Currently, we’re accepting poetry, fiction, and articles. There’s no theme or niche at Riot - write about what you’re passionate about, and we’ll read it!

  2. Word limits vary across genres - 800 words for articles, 1000 words for fiction, and 2 pages for poetry.

  4. While we’re not against the usage of swearing, we’d prefer if you’d keep it to a minimum. It goes without saying that we are against the use of slurs or discriminatory language

  5. We will not be editing your piece to a great extent, in order to preserve its stylistic integrity and to ensure that it is a unique piece of writing. Editors will ONLY conduct grammar and spelling checks on your articles.

  6. We are okay with pieces that have already been published elsewhere! When you are submitting, please specify if it has been published previously, and do take permission from the previous publication or site

  7. We will respond to your submissions in about two weeks

  8. We will only allow 3 works to be submitted per person at a time, and only one will be published in an issue. There is a cooldown period of two months before you can send submissions to us again.

  • Please submit your pieces in a Google Doc - sent as a shared file to Riot Mag, after you’ve changed the permissions to ‘Anyone can edit’.

  • Font as Times New Roman, size 12.

  • Send your work to, and ensure that you follow the aforementioned guidelines and format. Please add a writer’s bio in the body of the email, or as part of your submission document(s). Please include a short cover letter in the body of the email, letting us know who you are.
